7/15 Lochmere Away Meet

  • When: July 15 - arrive at 5:15
  • Volunteers still needed...  Contact the Meet Directors tonight if you can help.
  • Pirate Themed!
PLEASE READ:
Concern has been expressed regarding the current media story in which a resident of Lochmere has gone missing and that a body had been discovered somewhat near the neighborhood. I have spoken with the TSA rep and Lochmere wants to swim the meet.  It was further conveyed that it would be the woman's desire for the meet to go an per a close friend.  In addition, Cary Police are aware of the swim meet and will be patrolling frequently in the area.  If the body found is ID'd as the missing jogger from Lochmere then a moment of silence will be observed at the meet.

Please remember to arrive in time to the meet to get your swim number on your arm.  NO SUNSCREEN TO THAT ARM.  Warm-ups will begin around 5:15pm.

*** Don't forget that our theme is "PIRATES" and that the age group that has the best dressed pirates will have an ice cream party!

Volunteers are still needed for tonight's meet. Please check in with the meet directors to see where you can help.

INFORMATION FROM LOCHMERE:

Welcome to Lochmere!

The Lochmere Monsters are looking forward to a great meet and would like to share some information that will help your swimmers, coaches and families have an enjoyable and successful Tuesday evening.

Lochmere is a TEN lane pool. Please make sure your main events are seeded accordingly in lanes 4, 6 and 8.  Relays will swim in all ten lanes, so you may fill the main event (lanes 2 and 10). We will not run any relay heats in any age group– main event only! Our starter will use dive-overs. Please make sure your swimmers are ready!
There will be a pre-meet meeting at 5:45 on the upper deck by the diving well. Please have all of your officials, judges and timers there well in advance so we can get a prompt start. We have a request for your timers. In later heats we may fill empty lanes with our swimmers. Please ask your timers to time the swimmer and give the time to the Lochmere timer in the next lane. If your swimmers end up in Lochmere lanes, we will time them for you.

The large (shaded!) deck area closest to the pool entrance will be reserved for your team.  A limited number of deck chairs will be provided, but we do recommend that your families bring folding chairs.

The concession stand will be open with a variety of snacks, water, soft drinks, smoothies, baked potatoes, pizza and hot dogs with our famous ‘Monster Sauce’.

The pool lightning policy is somewhat more restrictive than TSA’s. They require the entire deck to be cleared for 45 minutes after thunder is heard. Let’s hope for good weather!

7/15 Hurricanes at CSC!

The swim team activities originally scheduled for this week have been postponed due to a HURRICANE!

The Carolina Hurricanes Storm patrol will be at CSC on Wednesday, July 16th from 5:30-6:30 pm.  Come and join the fun! Hurricanes T-Shirts, Posters, Hats…. Free Stuff!!!

If you are not into hockey and want to practice I am sure that the coaches can accommodate.

7/15 Swim Team Banquet

The survey said that you all want pizza, cake and drink so that is what the coordinators are working on.  Please look for a sign up and information related to costs.  If you can help with set up please contact Collette Quinlivan.

7/13 Friday Night Movie

Friday night, July 18th can be MOVIE NIGHT at the POOL if there is an interest.  In keeping with the weekly theme, "Pirates of the Caribbean" will be shown.  Please sign up on the bulletin board if you think that your family will be attending.

7/9 Home Meet vs. Prestonwood ---part 2. WE NEED YOU THERE

Warm ups for home team will start at 4:45pm and the away team at 5:15pm. We will have a very brief officials meeting at 5:45pm to ensure that we have enough volunteers. The meet will resume at 9-10 boys breaststroke- MAIN EVENT. If we complete breaststroke AND have a weather delay ending the meet then the meet will be over- Prestonwood will of course will have won by points. (I think it was last called at 199-66). The meet will be run in its normal pattern- main event followed by the regular heats.

If we never get the meet to start due to inclement weather on Wednesday night Prestonwood would be declared the winner by points. However, teams must be present regardless of weather unless the TSA representatives mutually agree or the home pool manager has closed the pool for the evening due to weather. Failure to present a team ready to swim is considered a forfeiture and the team that is present would be declared the winner in the event that meet does not occur regardless of points scored. THIS MEANS THAT WE HAVE TO SHOW UP READY TO SWIM ON WEDNESDAY!!!

I can not stress how important it is to let the meet directors know if you have a problem and can not fulfill your volunteer position. In addition, swimmers ( or their parents) need to inform Coach Lauren if they will not be in attendance at the meet on Wednesday as soon as possible.

For parents of 6 and unders- your children have finished the meet. BUT.... if you are scheduled to volunteer WE STILL NEED YOU.

7/2 Lake Park Meet Results

The Lake Park meet results are posted here or you can find them on the Meets page.

7/1 Swim Practice

This week there will be no practice Thurs. evening, July 3 or all day on Fri., July 4.

7/1 Lake Park Meet Tonight

Thanks to everyone who signed up to volunteer at the Lake Park meet. All volunteer positions have been filled! Warm-ups start at 5:15, but plan on arriving at 4:45. Bring Bug Spray! Remember not to apply sunscreen to the swim number area of the arm. Questions? Email the Meet Directors.

Below is information shared with us by the Lake Park TSA rep:
  • Lake Park is a small, family centered pool located in the middle of the Lake Park neighborhood in North  Raleigh. Our summer swim team philosophy is that first and foremost swim team is about fun and improvement.
  • We have 134 swimmers this year and the pool has six lanes.
  • The parking lot is small. Only the very early arrivals will get a spot to park in the parking lot. There is plenty of parking on the neighborhood streets. There are sidewalks so it is safe for all to walk. ALL Lake Park families are being asked to not use the parking lot but this will not guarantee a spot for everyone.
  • We will have our swim team, parent/kid operated snack stand running for  all to get food and sweets of all kinds.
  • We will start promptly at 6pm.
  • Officials meeting with the TSA Rep will start promptly at 5:50pm  outside  the pool entrance, by the volleyball court.
  • We are honored to host you and are anxious to assist you in whatever way we can.
  • Finally, the Lake Park Marlins wish all the members of your team GOOD LUCK Tuesday night. "

The Greater Raleigh TSA Meet is coming up on Sunday, July 13th.  The meet will be held at the Triangle Aquatic Center and it is hosted by The New Wave Swim Team. It is a great opportunity for swimmers to swim in the new pool against competitors from all around. The entry fee and further information will be included in the binder. If we can get 15 people to sign up by Thursday night we will be in the meet!

Contact Coach Lauren with any questions.

6/18 Stroke Clinic

This Saturday, June 21st the freestyle and backstroke clinic will be held at CSC. Times are the same as the previous clinics: 8-9 am for 11 and overs; 9-10 for 10 and unders. 6/18 Swim Team Update - Shepherd's Vineyard

A great effort last night at our first dual in the pool at Shepherd's Vineyard! Torrey Bussey and Will Densmore both broke SH pool records at the meet! In addition there were quite a few double and triple winners on our team.
Please open the link to all meet results that have been posted to our governing organization's web site: Special congratulations to all of the swimmers who swam in their first meet ever- way to go!!!
I have heard that WiiBounce was a really fun time and good opportunity for the swim team members and coaches. Yeah!!! Next week's activity will be the Water Fun and Slip n Slide. Please look on the bulletin board for specifics on this event. Jennifer Johns is coordinating the activity and is in need of some donated items for the event. Do you have an idea for this event- has to be related to FUN and WATER- please see Jennifer to tell her about your idea.

A comprehensive update- this week's Fast Trac newsletter if you will, is being composed. Please look for the email over the weekend as it will include important information concerning our first home meet next Tuesday, June 24th.

Many parents have asked if we could follow the pattern that we have observed at other clubs for when we have home meets. Specifically- giving the visiting team the courtesy of parking in the closest parking spaces. I am totally in favor of this very polite gesture. So please, next week when you come to the meet next Tuesday and then for all remaining meets, drop off your stuff and then park your cars at Christ the King parking lot.
Thank you for all for all that you do to make CSC swim team so wonderful!

6/18 UPDATES TO PRACTICE TIMES

Sadly, the summer swim season for the Cary Imps is coming to an end.  There are only two meets left!  All of the swimmers have worked very hard and shown huge improvements in their swimming technique.  Get excited for these last two meets and make each swim count by thinking about what we are working on in practice.  Show your Imp pride and cheer for your teammates!

7/2

The Cary Swim Club Imps have had a great week!  At the Cary City meet almost everyone achieved a best time and the Imps finished 6th!!  Way to go!  This week we also got a chance to swim Lake Park up in Raleigh and it was a very fun meet.  All of the swimmers are working hard to improve their strokes and it shows.  There were lots of best times!  Remember to finish all the way to the wall when you are swimming.  Keep up the hard work!

6/11

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer and staying cool.  Everyone has been working hard on improving their strokes and I think it really showed at the Green and White Meet this week.  There are some things we can work on, but I was very impressed.  Thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped!

With school ending, morning practices have begun.  Please try and attend one practice a day so that we can continue to improve.  Our first meet is on Tuesday at Shepard's Vineyard.  Make sure you let the coaches know by this Friday if you will not be at the meet.

Thank you!!

Coach Lauren
