No Practice Friday! There will be no afternoon practice on Friday, June 8th. Green and White MeetThe Green and White Meet will be on Wednesday, June 6th. Warm-ups start at 5:15 and the Meet will begin at 6:00 pm. The team rosters for the Green Team and White Team are ready! 6 and Under / Sunfish Practice Begins May 29thWith the cool nights that we have been experiencing the
pool temperature is currently only 72 degrees. At the kick
off meeting on Saturday the young swimmers became quite cold very
quickly. Young children are timid about getting
into the water when it is cold which can have a
negative impact on them for the season. To avoid this and for their
safety 6 and unders as well as Sunfish will not begin practice until
Tuesday, May 29th at 4:15 pm. Thank you for your
understanding. 6 and unders and Sunfish start date for practice has
been changed. Practice for these groups will begin practice
on Tuesday, May 29th at 4:15pm . |
Old Coach's CornerJune 20Swimmers had an amazing night at the swim meet against Preston this Tuesday and there was a lot of obvious improvement. Swimmers will be able to pick up their Speeding Tickets at the lifeguards' desk in the clubhouse hopefully no later than Thursday evening--they will be in a box on the desk in envelopes with each child's name. That said, there is a slight change to the Speeding Tickets program. The coaches are still trying to get the prizes for the Speeding Tickets trade-in organized and the "prices" for each prize set. Therefore, the first chance swimmers will have to trade in their tickets for prizes will be NEXT week after the meet against Shepherd's Vineyard. We will provide more information on the trade-in as it gets closer. We will plan to have one more trade-in at the end of the season where swimmers can trade in the tickets they will receive during the second half of the season. Thanks for everyone's generous donations thus far!" Thanks! -Alex June 11 - IMPORTANT!The coaches completely understand that emergencies and unexpected circumstances arise where your children have to miss swim meets with very little notice. However, there has been a problem leading up to the first swim meet against Lochmere this year with parents not telling me that their children are either missing the swim meet altogether or leaving early well after Friday night. I have received emails as well as been told in person about these absences or early departures as late as Monday night (the night before the meet!). I know people may not realize the importance of telling me by Friday if their swimmers will be absent. However, creating the lineup for each meet is a very time consuming process, which I usually spend much of my weekend completing. When parents or swimmers tell me that they will miss a meet or part of a meet after the lineup has been completed, it creates a great deal of extra work and last-minute scrambling to change the lineup and cover for the missing swimmers. It is VERY important that parents remember to either sign the meet absence sheets posted on the swim team bulletin board OR email me BEFORE 7:00 PM on the Friday before the meet. If this becomes a repeated problem, swimmers risk not being entered in any main events or relays for future meets. - Coach AlexJune 8Hello Imps! Congratulations to all the swimmers who swam in the Green and White practice meet on Wednesday night. Everyone swam hard, cheered for their teammates, and all around showed some amazing team spirit! The coaches hope that the swimmers bring this same type of enthusiasm to the meet against Lochmere on Tuesday! That said, as the swimmers who attended practice on Thursday evening saw, I had a very thick pile of yellow DQ slips from WednesdayÕs practice meet. The large majority of these DQs were for breaststroke and butterfly, which we will be working very hard on before TuesdayÕs meet in order to correct any problems swimmers might have had with these particular strokes. There was also some confusion among our younger swimmers on Wednesday night about relays. We had only worked on them once before the time trial, so this was to be expected. We will try to work more on relays in practice in days to come to make sure everyone is comfortable with relays. Lastly, I just wanted to let everyone know that, in honor of our first home meet, we will be having a poster contest and other spirit activities for swimmers as they finish practice on Tuesday morning. I hope everyone is having fun and excited about our very first swim meet of the season! Go Imps! -Alex June 6 - PARENTS PLEASE READThings have been going great at practice the last couple of weeks, and all of the coaches are VERY excited about the Green/White meet and our first meet next week! The members of the swim team have all been doing a GREAT job! But, I have a couple of things that I urgently need Swim Team parents to be aware of:
June 1We had a great Parent-Coaches Meeting last Saturday! I've summarized what we discussed, so please take a minute to look over it and see if you have any questions. |
